According to Consumer Reports, kitchen remodels are commonly divided into three categories: do-it-yourself remodels, semi-assembly remodels and complete kitchen remodels.

Based upon recent Consumer Report surveys, the three categories have an average cost associated with each of them. Typically, do-it-yourself projects average a total cost of $5,000. This is usually the case with small kitchens implementing a basic layout remodel.

Semi-assembly remodel costs average $15,000. While this remodel budget is a little more than that of a D-I-Y project, a lot of the project will still need to be self-managed. This budget may allow for a contractor to do minor framing or foundation work such as adding a window or removing a wall.

With an average cost of $50,000, full-scale remodels require the assistance of a general contractor. Full-scale remodels often include more expensive kitchen design materials and appliances.

Frigidaire’s Affinity Front Load Washer recently received ENERGY STAR approval from the U.S. Department of Energy. The new washer from Frigidaire took four out of five spots in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR rankings. The ENERGY STAR ratings measure the washer’s water efficiency and the energy required to run the washer and heat the water used for a wash cycle. Frigidaire was also recently recognized as a Special Honoree in the 2010 ENERGY STAR awards.

Here’s what Marty O’Gorman, General Manager for Frigidaire, had to say about Frigidaire home appliances:

As a proud Energy Star partner, Frigidaire is committed to helping our customers save money and increase energy efficiency in their homes. That’s why our new line of laundry and kitchen appliances offer industry leading energy efficiency along with innovative features that minimize energy and water consumption. We’re proud to offer appliances that save consumers time, money, and considerable amounts of energy and water – from washers that use up to 155% less energy and 63% less water to dishwashers that use at least 41% less energy and 40% less water than was used just 10 years ago.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, your  kitchen consumes the largest amount of energy. Between lighting, cooking and refrigeration, kitchens account for 41.5% of the energy used in your home, and that’s not including dishwashers and other appliances. Because kitchen appliances require a lot of energy, it is very important to select energy efficient appliances to reduce the amount of energy you use.

If you’re planning on upgrading your kitchen you may need some help deciding between the best energy efficient brands. Here are some ENERGY STAR approved brands to choose from.

Whirlpool

General Electric (GE)
